Coeur d'Alene Wedding: Adam & Dana

I have thought a lot about this post. It isn’t only because this wedding at Settlers Creek was one of the most beautiful weddings I had the privilege of photographing all year, nor because it is the last wedding I photographed for the 2014 season. It’s not because of the amazing flowers, or the great food, or the awesome wedding party, or the tasty lemonade. It isn’t because I’ve known Adam for many years, and as a friend I wanted to write something amazing about him and his new, beautiful, absolutely awesome wife. No. It’s more than that.

You can watch their Photo Story here.

When listening to over eight hours of audio from the wedding day when creating their Photo Story, I realized that it is them. It’s how they interact. It’s how they love each other. It’s greater than an old friendship, or an amazing venue, or beautiful flowers. It’s one of those things that, as I listened, even when they had forgotten the mic was there, I realized they had something special. Something unique that I had possibly seen before. I loved sharing their story when I did their engagement video — a mix of fun, funny, and heartwarming, with just the right touch of emotion. And the same holds true here, on their wedding day.

It is the little things, like Adam humming “Amazing Grace” when not a soul was around to hear him, right before he saw Dana for the first time. Or his reverence when thanking God for the beautiful day. You can tell he’s excited. There is no mystery there. It’s the banter between the two while we photographed them — things funny, cute, and so “them.”

For example, I loved it when Adam said, “You have one eye.” Dana replied, “As do you, my love. I would love you if you only had one eye.” Or another one: Adam said, “This is going to be great.” Both of them, in unison, “It already is.” Adam snapped back, “Jinks! You owe me a Coke.” Dana, complying without hestiation, “Okay. I’ll get you a Coke. I’ll get you a Coke for our road trip, mmkay?” “Okay.” “Okay. Fantastic.”

If only I had all day to share all of their little snippets. Perhaps one more, during our photo session. Adam, sniffling, “I might have snot coming down.” Dana, laughing, “It's fine. I love your snot.” Adam, with confidence, “Yeah, you do.” Dana, still laughing, “I'll take your snot any day.”

To be honest with you, there is no real way I can describe them. There is no quote that can do them justice. It is simply a matter of listening and watching. They are special, unique, and truly loved by so many. I can only hope I captured a small glimpse of it all.
