Surreal Lake Wedding: Mitch & Marisa

I'd love to say Mitch and Marisa got married on a beautiful sunny day in Coeur d'Alene at the Coeur d'Alene Resort, with a small lake breeze keeping the temperatures just right. I'd love to say that everything went exactly the way the bride and groom hoped - but I can't.

I remember Mitch and Marisa's wedding very well. I remember thinking the day before that those beautiful views and vistas that the resort offers wouldn't be visible through the smoke - smoke so heavy it made my throat burn when outside for any length of time. I don't know if you remember, but this year we had a good two weeks of heavy heavy smoke from local forest fires. The air quality was so bad, that my son wasn't aloud outside for recess at school, and people were actively avoiding having kids or elderly outside at all. For me, I didn't know how photos would work when you couldn't even see the lake behind the couple, but it was going to be different.

And different it was. I remember taking some photos during the sunset hour - a time when we decided to "see what happens" even though there was likely to be no sunset - thinking "this is unreal". There were moments during this wedding where I took photos I knew I would love for years to come - photos that just looked so different, so stark, it was making me quite excited in the moment, as it is now. For this reason, I also had a very hard time culling down the photos, each one seeming deserving of a place in this wedding blog.

Mitch and Marisa had a wedding with a lot of smoke, it's true, but they also had one that was beautiful and unique. We got to do some things we don't normally get to do (like take pictures on the fairway) and we got some incredible color gradients at sunset. All this, and both the bride and groom took everything in stride. They laughed, cried, and held each other. They loved each other and made a day that had so much smoke that it went from being a bad thing, to an amazing thing. I couldn't be happier to share these photos, share these memories with you, and I hope you love them as much as I do.
