One of the blessings in disguise this year was having the Fourth of July on a Friday. Because it's a national holiday, a LOT of couples avoided that whole weekend for their wedding. This means that instead of photographing someone else's big day, i got to do one of my favorite things, capture my own small days. :) This ranged from taking some firework photos, to some pictures of my son on one of our walks, to my new nephew Micah, to my wife and I's anniversary trip to Glacier. A varied and entertaining couple of days. As i've said before, taking photos outside of paid work, experimenting, trying new things, and so forth is the best way to become a great photographer. Better to experiment on your two year old son, than on someone's wedding photos they want to keep for the rest of their lives.

I've never been to a smaller wedding that this one. Ed and Gail had told me it would be small, they had even said "eight people" but for some reason that number didn't click until everyone was there. I've photographed weddings with more people in the bridal party than there were at this entire wedding (if you include myself AND the bride and groom). Regardless, it was a beautiful, intimate, quiet wedding blessed by rain only to see the sun pop out right before the ceremony. The couple were light hearted, good natured (even when it was pouring) and i couldn't have been more blessed to be a part of it.

Kyle and Aubrey are awesome people. It's really that simple. They have a zest for life, and it shows in a lot of the poses and unique things they tried at their wedding. They weren't content walking down to a regular love song, instead, you heard Lord of the Rings music when Kyle came down the aisle. Similarly, no mere knife would do when it came to cutting the cake, it had to be the Kings Sword, an exact replica of King Aragorn's sword in Lord of the Rings, that would do the honors of cutting the sugar and fluffy bread. Photography isn't about just capturing moments, it's also about capturing those unique moments, those moments that make a couples wedding unique. Kyle and Aubrey made this easy.

I love to photograph weddings. I get to meet a lot of new people, get to see a couple say “I love you so much that i want to spend the rest of my life with you,” and I get to capture that moment to be remembered forever. There is a certain energy that builds throughout the day that’s so contagious that you can’t help but love being there. Laszlo and Lindsay really brought a lot of awesome ideas and energy to their wedding that I didn’t merely have fun, I enjoyed myself immensely, even in the 12th hour.

Spokane Engagement: Billy & Melissa

Billy likes to play the drums. In fact, he plays the drums at Real Life Ministries college group, Thirst, in Coeur d'Alene Idaho. Melissa started going to Thirst and this is where they met. But really, the story doesn't end there. They continued to run into each other in different places, at a dating class run by the church, "dating without delusions" as well as happening to be in the same small group. Melissa was initially worried about how Billy wouldn't be interested in her, as he's younger (albeit only a couple years) and she has a beautiful daughter. The opposite was true though, as Billy seemed to gravitate towards her daughter, and they hit it off.
