Kyle and Aubrey are getting married! This doesn't just mean that i'll be shooting their wedding here in June, but it also means i have the privilege of shooting their engagement photos. But anyone that lives in Coeur d'Alene Idaho like myself can look outside and see that it isn't necessarily the best weather for an engagement shoot.

There is often a very big question among new and even experienced photographers. "How do i use my flash?" The problem stems from what direct flash does and how it often destroys an image. Many photographers use a flash when they have no other choice. Use the flash, or have no image at all. Often times this brings a very unpleasing look to the subjects face, because direct flash causes many problems. In this blog i'm going to briefly discuss why you should never use direct flash, and why certain bounces are better than others.

A week or so ago my family and i went to Portland for an engagement shoot with Deanna and Corey. It was a great trip, not only do i love Portland, but i also love shooting engagements. Engagements are awesome because the couple normally work so well together. It's an exciting time! They are getting ready to declare to the world that this one person is the only one they wish to be with for the rest of their life. A strong, and awesome, declaration.

I met Michael and Julianna for the first time when i shot their engagement photos. Coming into the shoot, especially one that i'm doing a photo story for, I always wonder about their story: how they met, what they love about each other, what they can't wait for. Things that make them who they are, things that make them unique. This is where my idea of a Photo Story comes from. Taking a story from their engagement, whether it happened locally here in Coeur d'Alene or Spokane... or not, and bringing it into their wedding.

Christmas Wonderland

I'm not much of a writer, but i think a blog is a good way of posting some of the more recent photos I've done. Whether it is from a photo shoot I've done recently, or perhaps some personal work, this could be a lot of fun. In both cases it will allow me to either tell you a little bit more about myself, or tell you a little bit more about what i do. In this case it's Christmas time. In order to be festive, my awesome son Isaiah, my wife Crystal, and I went down town with some good friends to see the lights that the Coeur d'Alene Resort put up. They are beautiful, and plentiful!
