Coeur d’Alene Family: The Nelsons

Happy New Year! For my first blog of 2015, I wanted to share the photos I took of the Nelson family. I met Tara Nelson for the first time at a wedding I photographed toward the end of the year in Coeur d’Alene. She was awesome, in spite of her telling me her name is “Tina,” which had me messed up for days. Regardless of messed up names, Mitch and Jody got married, Tara and her daughter won the lip-sync contest (which was awesome), and life moved on. A month or so later, Tara contacted me about doing some family photos for her and her family, and then some more photos for her extended family right before Christmas. I was pumped. It’s always fun meeting new people. We met on a very cold fall morning for one session, and a very wet December morning for the other. Both days were great, and I loved how both turned out.

I first met Michael and Julianna very close to a year ago for their engagement shoot. It was early January, and about 5 degrees outside, but we made it work and had an amazing time. I remember Michael and Julianna dropping little hints about a family when I did their Photo Story that day, but who knew when they would get started? Their wedding at Camden Ranch was absolutely beautiful, and I loved doing their Photo Story. So when I found out they were pregnant I was super excited. I have a two-year-old son and one on the way, so it was easy for me to relate. I’m so excited for these two and their new family.

Coeur d'Alene Wedding: Adam & Dana

I have thought a lot about this post. It isn’t only because this wedding at Settlers Creek was one of the most beautiful weddings I had the privilege of photographing all year, nor because it is the last wedding I photographed for the 2014 season. It’s not because of the amazing flowers, or the great food, or the awesome wedding party, or the tasty lemonade. It isn’t because I’ve known Adam for many years, and as a friend I wanted to write something amazing about him and his new, beautiful, absolutely awesome wife. No. It’s more than that.

Cheryl contacted me early in November about taking some photos at her unique wedding. She was going to get married, and no one knew it was going to happen. The plan was to show up to the Coeur d’Alene Resort, get married in their beautiful room, and then get drinks and food at Beverly’s, the restaurant on the 7th floor of the hotel. She tasked me with photographing the three-person ceremony (six, if you include myself and the two dogs) and some of the festivities before and after. Needless to say, I was excited.

I remember when I first met Matt. He was a skinny kid wearing an arm sleeve at my college basketball team’s open gym. I don’t remember talking to him, I just remember wondering why he thought he needed that arm sleeve. He would eventually come to Multnomah University and play a year of basketball with me before I graduated. It’s funny to think about now, because it seems I played more than one season with him, with so many great memories and travels togetherMatt and Jenna met through a mutual friend and seemed to hit it off well. Super well, in fact.
