My second trip to Portland this year was a busy one. But it was for a good reason, Corey & Deanna's wedding! Everything was beautiful at their wedding, the venue, the people, the bride. Check out the photos after the break. :)

Kyle and Aubrey have amazing energy. I can say this because not only do i consider them friends, but they make it obvious with every photo. We had some great Save the Date photos earlier this year, when snow was on the ground. They had a blast throwing snow into the air, even when some hit Aubrey directly in the face. The engagement photos got pushed back slightly, as they went to LA for a missions trip, leaving Coeur d'Alene behind for 10 days to serve God, the homeless and anyone else in need.

Coeur d'Alene Engagement: Isaac & Stephanie

I can’t wait for Isaac and Stephanie’s wedding. I’m in Coeur d’Alene Idaho, which is beautiful, but there is something about a barn wedding up in Bonners Ferry that has me all pumped.

Ben and Leanne are awesome. I met both of them when I was attending Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon. I love shooting weddings out there, and engagements, because things are always so green — way more so than Coeur d’Alene, Idaho (although Coeur d’Alene is quite beautiful). Portland offers a lot of variety. It was at Multnomah that I really started getting into photography by shooting a lot of events for the athletics teams, including volleyball. This is how I met Leanne, because I often captured her dominating the game of volleyball. Well, as much as a Multnomah volleyball player can dominate, anyway. ;) These two are so awesome. I was pumped to shoot their engagement photos, and I can’t wait for their wedding in September!

Wedding season is upon us! As i begin to prepare for my first wedding of the season this coming Friday in Portland Oregon, i thought it would be interesting to talk about what it is i do to prepare. Simply put, i make sure i'm ready for any situation. This means camera and memory card failure in the worst of cases, and bad lighting in the best of cases. Luckily for me, the bad lighting is the worst i have experienced. That said, there are many key components to being ready for any situation, and specific types of gear for that situation. Because as a wedding photographer, you end up needing to be good at many things: Landscape photography, to capture the essence of the venue; portrait photography, to capture the people; product photography, to get the details such as the dress, rings and shoes; and finally event photography, to capture the people effectively in one of the greatest moments of their lives. In many ways, the wedding photographer needs to be good at everything. The gear is simply the means by which they do it.
