Personal: Trip to Glacier

In the fall of 2021 I had the chance to photograph a wedding out near Glacier National Park (shout out to Zach and Abbie!). You may not know this about me, but while I absolutely love photographing weddings, and families, engagements, seniors and all that good stuff, I also love hiking, being outside, exercise, and being in God’s incredible creation. So a couple days before the wedding came about I left early to do some hiking with my parents and younger sister. Once school got out my incredible wife and two boys also joined me out there, and we had one day to explore the park before the wedding on Saturday. Here are some of my favorites from that (smokey) trip. Zach and Abbie’s wedding was smokeless though, thanks in part to the large amount of rain we got the day before (the day we were hiking).

The first day we drove out there I really wanted to go on a sunset hike on Highline trail. I didn’t know how far my parents could make it, but we did about a 3 mile section of it (one way) and ended at the top of an overlook. We timed it very well so we could be up there at sunset (although the smoke really diminished that a bit) and then we walked back in the dark. It was absolutely beautiful. This hike is called the Highline Trail, and the trail head starts at the top of Logan Pass on Going to the Sun Road. It may just be one of the most beautiful hikes in the world.

The next day (before my wife and kids arrived, as they left after school was out) a couple of us went and explored some more, Avalanche Lake is probably featured the most here in the section below, and it’s so beautiful. The forests at the base, and the incredible view, waterfalls, and mountains at the top.

The last day we explored a lot of what we had done the prior days - just with my boys. We took them on the Highline Trail, the start of Avalanche Lake tail, and also went over to the East side of Glacier where we found some pretty incredible spots over there (even though it started to rain on us, which is why all our hair gets a little flat towards the end).

On the way home from Glacier we took the north route which goes through Bonners Ferry, meaning we had the chance to go by Kootani Falls, which is absolutely incredible. A little after this I had the chance to do an engagement shoot here as well (Shout out to Tyler and Kassandra!) which was absolutely awesome. We weren't there for super long, but it was a lot of fun. Just a couple more memories to share.
