Coeur d'Alene Engagement Photography: Robert & Kate

They met on Tinder. It's amazing to me actually how often I hear that statement these days. Tinder, and dating apps like it, are probably the number one way people are meeting and starting real relationships these days. Robert and Kate are one of those couples. It only took a couple days of being "matched" that Robert had convinced Kate to go do a hike with him. This hike was in a "very popular place" down in the Phoenix area and so Kate felt safe.

I asked Robert what his first impression of Kate was and it was along the lines of "oh wow, this girl is real" - meaning she was there with real hiking shoes on, real socks, and didn't seem overly concerned with how she looked (very different from his home town of San Diego)  but rather was dressed for the occasion (the 2000 vertical feet, four mile hike). While at the same time, Robert had a second impression that was very much along the lines of "dang she's good looking"  - although not in those exact words. Regardless, they hit it off, and talked the whole way through the hike. Things were clearly going very well.

It would continue to go well, but after the third date Kate was worried, you see Robert (being the gentleman that he is) hadn't kissed her yet, and she was beginning to worry that he was friend zoning her. When in reality, he liked her so much, he wanted to build a friendship first, without the cloudiness that a physical relationship would bring.

Either way, it wasn't long before Robert and Kate would make their relationship official (just over a month, if I remember right) and then covid would hit. Kate went from working 7 days a week to not working at all, and the two went from only being able to talk once a week to talking every day. In a very real way, COVID took their relationship and put it into a speed dating routine, and what they had thrived because of it.

Robert would buy a ring maybe 6 months after meeting Kate, even if he wouldn’t' ask for another year, it was clear to him what kind of person he had on his hands. And now, after a proposal down in Mexico, these two are getting married! And really, because I only photographed their engagement about a week before their actual wedding, they ARE married! I hope you love these engagement photos as much as I loved taking them. Robert and Kate are amazing, and I'm so excited to share more of our adventures on this shoot, but also their wedding.
