CDA Wedding Photographer: Matt & Kendal's Engagement On Tubbs Hill
They met when they were around four years old. Yeah, that's pretty nuts to me, too. I have two boys, ages 11 and 8. The idea that one of the girls in their kindergarten class could be their future wife is hard to imagine, but hey - it happens. Anyway, Matt and Kendal were friends. They had always been friends, and their families were friends. This isn't all that uncommon.
I asked Matt, however, when he started thinking of Kendal differently, when she went from being "that girl who comes over with mom and dad's friends," to "Oh MAN, Kendal is looking great today".
He told me it was about 6 years ago. They went to a wedding together and at this wedding, he saw her dressed up for the first time. That's when he realized how attractive she was. He loved the fact that even though their family and friends were around, she was being "just herself," which is absolutely amazing. So for many years, Matt wasn't really pursuing Kendal, but he definitely liked her.
Fast-forward a couple of years and it's Kendal - who was oblivious to Matt's feelings for her - having her own moment of realization, "Wow, Matt's actually an awesome guy". She was terrified though, convinced he didn't feel the same about her.
They remained friends, with a few bumps along the way and potentially some inadvertent ghosting, until one of Kendal's friends started dating Matt's roommate. Kendal then began to be regularly invited over to watch movies with her friends and of course, Matt. Everything came to a head when the roommate and friend had to cancel on movie night, leaving just Kendal and Matt alone.
About twenty minutes into that movie, they kissed for the first time. They made something concrete out of the feelings that had been simmering for so long. Now, they're getting married, and I have the chance to be there! I'm very excited. Meanwhile, here are some of my favorite shots from our engagement session.
