North Idaho Engagement: Sport & Erika

They met at church in Panama (If I'm remembering right) when they were 10 (or close to). They were friends, but that friendship only lasted about a year. Erika's family was going through a big transition and they would move away not long after. But there was an impression.

 Fast forward 30 years.

Yeah, fast forward, I said. Because it was long after that Sport would be thinking about his old friend Erika while he was thinking back on his childhood. Seprately, across the world in Switzerland, Erika was going through family photos from her whole life, and she noticed that one year was particularly lacking photos (the year she met Sport). She remembered that year as being hectic, but also remembered a kind boy (who's name just slipped her mind) who was her friend back then.

It's interesting to me that both Sport and Erika had small but subtle reminders of each other mere months before Sport would randomly stumble across Erika on Facebook. Because he recently was reminded of her, he sent her a message - a message Erika almost deleted. Instead, she noticed that he mentioned "Panama" in his message and it caused her to open it. It only took a little bit for Erika to make the connection with that kind boy she was thinking about not long ago, whose name she could not remember.

They would start to message each other, for months they talked, getting to know each other, going deeper and deeper. A couple months in they decided to start talking on the phone, and once they did that, it was every day. Their relationship bloomed in such an amazing way, and Erika would fly out to see Sport after about 3 months of talking. It was after this meeting, that Erika would know he was special, that he was someone she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. Sport wasn't far behind, and it was her second visit that he found himself fully bought in.

It's so cool to see these two, who met when they were kids, separated my thousands of miles of land and sea, to find each other again after so long and fall in love, and decide that they wanted to be with each other - and not just in name, but in every sense of the word. I'm so excited to be at their wedding at Settlers Creek this year and I can't wait to share those photos with you!
