Priest Lake Wedding: Paul and Lela

As the wedding season gets closer and closer to fall, the risk of rain or bad weather increases dramatically. Often times, when we get rained on at a wedding, it’s only briefly, or it’s a really light rain. Things we can easily work around. Only a couple times have I ever been so limited by the rain that I couldn’t go outside at all. Only a couple times has it been so bad that going outside to take some wedding portraits would mean the couple also getting soaked. This was one of those days. The rain wasn’t so bad in the morning, and it looked like we may get lucky during the first look (it was very light) but mid portraits the rain moved from “light” to “very heavy” and my gear really started to get tested (including the couple umbrella’s I brought).

That said, the one thing that didn’t flinch? Paul and Lela. They were so game for anything, rain, sun, mud or snow, it didn't matter. These two not only love the outdoors, but they were basking in the beauty of it all. The rain, while annoying, really provided such an incredible backdrop to their day, a lushness and richness to their wedding that you don’t get when everything is washed out in sunlight. We tried very hard to keep them dry (and some VERY kind guests helped me keep umbrella’s over them unless I was taking a photo, literally running in and out), and in some ways we succeeded.

But the thing I will always remember is how kind, patient, and energetic these two were on a day that most would be horrified to have happen to them. Paul and Lela are two incredible people, a class act, and I absolutely loved the time I had with them. What an honor it was, and I am so excited to share these wedding photos with you.
