Spokane Photographer: Casey & Christina
They both met on their first day at the Mayo Clinic. They were the oldest of the new group at the clinic, and immediately got along. Casey told me that Christina caught his eye from day one, and his interest was piqued. Luck would have it (for him, kind of) that both his AND Christina's new name tags were messed up, so they had* to walk together to go get them fixed. This was their first conversation. Small talk would ensue, but being that they were both older than the others, and both with the same level of education, they had a lot in common. Casey's biggest problem? Christina had a boyfriend.
So they developed a friendship. One that grew over the course of the year. They worked together and spent time together, and eventually became best friends. Casey was super aware of Christina's relationship status, and he was definitely aware of when they broke it off.
You would think, that at this point in the story, I would tell you they got together, and now I get to tell you how amazing they are (which is true) and how much fun I had (which I did) - but that's not where we are in the story. In fact, nothing happened. Yeah.
You see, I wasn't just saying they were best friends, they actually were best friends. What this meant was they didn't want to ruin their friendship to become more - especially after both of them had been in long term relationships that never really turned out ok. But you know what changed it? It was one moment - a kiss on the cheek.
After a night of hanging out Christina had fallen asleep at Casey's house, and when she left for work they gave each other a hug. He kissed her on the cheek and said "have a great day!" and walked away without looking back. This made Christina go wild in her mind, thinking of all the possible meaning's and responses. After getting some advice from a friend - who informed her to play it cool and just act normal - Christina took the opposite approach. She would text Casey that day and ask him if he wanted to meet up for a movie after she got off. They hung out every day since that moment, making their relationship official and getting engaged roughly a year later. Now, with the world falling apart, a pandemic on the rise these two are saying "I want you and no other" and are making the commitment in front of their friends and family to be married. I have the huge privilege of photographing their wedding, and I can't wait for it.
