Anniversary Photos: Joe and Harriett
So very often I get to take pictures of people who’s story’s are just starting, they are writing the first chapter in their love story, the first chapter in their life together. But very, very rarely do I get the chance to capture a couple who’s story has had time to mature, who’s love has aged like a fine wine. This particular shoot was amazing for me.
You see, over 60 years ago Joe came down south from his home town of New York to share his testimony in a church. He talked real fast and had a strong accent, but he left an impression. Harriett remembers that day when this young 22 year old man came and talked in her church and gave a testimony that put many people into tears. Joe remembers that day too, because there was an incredibly beautiful, red haired, blue eyed, freckled woman sitting at the piano. And it was in this moment that they were drawn to each other. It was some days later they would be in the same place again, where Joe was in line and Harriot (who was still in high school - a senior) would then talk to that extremely handsome man again. But instead of moving on down the line, Harriett didn't move - she wouldn't let go of his hands (although she insists that he was holding HER hands). After that day Joe asked Harriett out and they went on their first date. It was only a month into that relationship that they knew - this person was the one.
That was more than 60 years ago. These two have been in love, have been married for 60 years, and it was SO much fun for me to get to know them and capture some photos to celebrate a love that has lasted a lifetime. What an honor.
