Tinder, and dating apps like it, are probably the number one way people are meeting and starting real relationships these days. Robert and Kate are one of those couples. It only took a couple days of being "matched" that Robert had convinced Kate to go do a hike with him. This hike was in a "very popular place" down in the Phoenix area and so Kate felt safe.
